In summer, there’s nothing better than relaxing with a drink and a bite to eat on a rooftop terrace. There are several such rooftop terraces in Groningen, although they aren’t always easy to spot. Fortunately, there are places where you can enjoy a stunning view of the city and some lovely sunshine overhead. Groningen has a number of fantastic rooftop terraces that are ideal for a relaxing afternoon or evening. Discover some of the best spots here that you absolutely mustn’t miss this summer.
1. BOOVN: Beach bar vibes atop the Wolkenfabriek
This rooftop terrace is situated atop the Wolkenfabriek on the Suikerunie site and is a really cosy spot. You’ve got views over the trendy Suikerunie site and there’s a lovely industrial vibe, the sort you’d find in Berlin, for example. Check the website for opening times of this great spot!
2. Cappuvino: Drinks with a View over the Vismarkt
On the rooftop terrace of Cappuvino in Groningen, you can indulge yourself with an extensive selection of cocktails, wines, beers and snacks. The view over the Vismarkt and the cosy atmosphere make this rooftop terrace the ideal spot for a relaxed summer drink with friends.
3. NOK: Panoramic View from the Forum
NOK is located in the Forum Groningen, the building where you can already head up to the roof for a fantastic view of Groningen. But one floor below, you’ll also find a proper terrace where you can enjoy a drink. The Forum’s roof terrace is more for taking in the views. From NOK’s inner terrace, you have spectacular views of the Martini Tower or other parts of the city, depending on where you’re sitting. We think this is a particularly nice spot for a drink for 2–4 people.
4. Coming soon: The Market Hotel rooftop terrace and Rooftop Merckt
The Market Hotel opened its doors in 2021 and their rooftop terrace is due to open soon (although people have been saying that for a few years now). As they are in a prime location, namely on the Grote Markt, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city centre from the rooftop terrace. Until the rooftop terrace opens, you can already enjoy a drink and a bite to eat on their ground-floor terrace.
The Merckt rooftop terrace is being renovated and will become Wijck. As soon as it opens, you’ll be able to find details on their website!
