On Friday 3 April 2026, Groningen will once again burst into every shade of the rainbow during the annual Flower Market, or Bloemenjaarmarkt as the locals lovingly call it. This cheerful spring tradition, held each year on the last Friday before Easter, transforms the entire city centre into a paradise of flowers and plants. Hundreds of stalls fill the streets with colour, fragrance and that unmistakable spring feeling. Whether you’re looking for bulbs, houseplants, seeds or a new pair of pruning shears, you’ll find it all here.
But fair? It’s much more than a market – it’s an experience. You stroll through the atmospheric Oude Ebbingestraat, past the Grote Markt and the A-Kerkhof, while being seduced by one gem after another in pots or beds.
Tip: no need to carry
Got your hands full of green happiness early on? No worries! On the Grote Markt you will find a handy flower depot. Between 09:00 and 18:00 you can store your purchases there free of charge. That way, you can carry on strolling empty-handed (and make room again for new plants).
Combine your visit to the market with an exploration of the city. Dive into a side street, settle down at a cosy coffee shop or terrace, shop at local boutiques or explore the Forum. You can effortlessly combine the market with a day in the city – or vice versa.
