Revista: from hipster bus to cosy café
“Coffee & Magazines” was written in big, white letters on the light blue hipster bus – an old Peugeot J7. Converting that bus into a coffee and cake bus really was a brilliant move. Close to the railway station, it was ideal to start or end your day with a quick coffee to go.
Unfortunately, the bus is a thing of the past, but no stress: the owners have moved their place to a cosy café on Carolieweg. Here you drink specialty coffee, with different beans from all over Europe every month. So every time is a new coffee journey. Specialty coffee? That’s coffee that meets the highest quality standards – it couldn’t be more delicious.
Black & Bloom
Once you’ve discovered this coffee bar, you’ll keep coming back. Owner Gerben Engelkes has won several top three places at Dutch coffee championships. The coffee is delicious and affordable and made with coffee beans that Gerben has been roasting himself with a Giesen W6A coffee roaster since early 2016. The knowledge of and love for the craft are second to none at Black & Bloom.
P.s. Inside, you can feast your eyes on the many Lego creations and the cool movie posters on the wall.
Sunday
In the heart of the Noorderplantsoen you will find restaurant Zondag, the only place in Groningen where it’s a bit of a weekend every day of the week. A five-minute walk from the city centre, but miles away from the daily hustle and bustle, you’ll find good coffee, open WIFI, and a menu full of local delicacies.
DE Cafe
The DE cafe is back in Groningen! Of course, this coffee is very well known and always tastes good. This new café is also nice to sit down, but definitely suitable for takeaway too.
Tip: an evening stroll along the canals with a drink café is fun!
Spaak: espresso bar & cycling café
Spaak is the odd one out. It is, in fact, a cycling café.
At the café, they serve coffee, espresso, latte and there are all kinds of treats on the menu such as banana bread, caramel shortcake and apple pie. You’ll also find all kinds of fun bikes and cycling gear in the shop.
You can also pick up at Spaak during the coronavirus outbreak. They are waiting for you at the door.
