On Liberation Day, the popular Leutje Festival will take place for the eighteenth time on Bernoulliplein in Groningen. This event is known as the ‘little sister’ of the larger Liberation Festival and is a much-loved multicultural neighbourhood party for residents of the Korrewegwijk and the surrounding area. The venue is open from 10:00 to 19:00 and admission is completely free.
Origins and atmosphere
What began in 2009 as a modest neighbourhood party for children has since grown into an event that attracts nearly a thousand people every year. Despite its growth, the festival has retained its friendly and intimate atmosphere. It is a place where young and old come together for music, creativity and conviviality.
Activities for children
As is tradition, there is plenty for young visitors to enjoy. There is a flea market where local children sell their bits and bobs (professional traders are not permitted). In addition, there are various free activities, such as:
- A spectacular show by the Santelli youth circus.
- Nostalgic merry-go-rounds and bouncy castles.
- Face painting for all children.
Music programme
On the professional stage, there’s space all day long for local talent and well-known cover bands. The line-up for this edition consists of:

Catering
There’s plenty to keep you fed and watered, with a variety of food and drink at the lowest possible prices. In collaboration with local Groningen businesses, a range of cuisines is on offer. You’ll also find classics such as hot dog rolls, ice creams, soft drinks, beer and wine.
