You can also discover beautiful tulip fields in Groningen, particularly in the countryside. And that might not be widely known. One advantage over the better-known flower-growing regions in the Randstad is that it isn’t as crowded with tourists here. It’s not like Keukenhof, situated right by the main road. But that makes viewing the tulips a lot easier. Find out where and when you can see tulips in Groningen on Inside Groningen.
Blooming season: when can you view the tulip fields in Groningen?
In Groningen, you can witness the beauty of the tulip fields from mid-April until sometime in the first week of May. It is important to remember that these fields are at the mercy of Mother Nature. This means that if we have a harsh winter – or a very wet autumn, causing the planting to be delayed! – the tulip fields will bloom later. But if the winter is mild and spring starts off sunny, the tulips will bloom earlier.
But don’t assume you’ll be able to see tulips in Groningen at the end of May or even in June. Tulip fields in the Netherlands are only in bloom for a short period. So make sure you make the most of Groningen this tulip season.
In the area around Lisse (Keukenhof), the fields are harvested earlier because they usually bloom earlier there.
